Redondo Beach Sportfishing Charters

In the past 20 years the fish landings have averaged about 9,000 pounds annually with 39,000 pounds in the peak year of 1944. The chief species have been lobster, albacore, barracuda, and swordfish. In 1951 the leading species were albacore and lobster. Two or three skiff fishermen operate a few lobster traps out of Laguna and a couple of small boats fish for abalone one or two days a week during the season. There is very little sport fishing at Laguna.

Heads up: Spirit Sportfishing is relaunching as a fishing charter concierge β€” we're not booking trips yet. Join the Plan a Trip waitlist or call (310) 622-2830 and we'll match you with a vetted partner boat and captain when trips resume.

Redondo Beach is home water for us β€” King Harbor sits at the south end of Santa Monica Bay, and it's one of the most convenient sportfishing ports in Los Angeles. Short runs put you on calico bass and sand bass along the Palos Verdes Peninsula; longer days reach the deeper banks for rockfish and lingcod, or cross the channel to Catalina Island.

What you'll fish in Redondo Beach

The inshore grounds off Palos Verdes β€” Rocky Point, Point Vicente, the local kelp beds β€” hold calico bass, sand bass, halibut, barracuda, and bonito most of the year. In late spring through fall, yellowtail and white seabass move through, and that's when the 3/4-day and full-day boats earn their keep. Winter brings excellent rockfish and lingcod fishing on the deeper structure.

Trip lengths from King Harbor

  • Half day (5–6 hours): perfect for beginners, kids, and anyone who just wants to bend a rod β€” bass and bottom fish in the bay.
  • 3/4 day (9–10 hours): the sweet spot for serious fishing β€” more time on the Palos Verdes grounds or a shot at the islands.
  • Full day: Catalina Island runs for yellowtail, calico bass, and white seabass around the island's kelp.

Why fish Redondo with a concierge

King Harbor has several operators running different boat sizes and trip styles. Instead of calling around, tell us your date, group size, and target species once β€” we match you with a vetted partner boat and captain, confirm availability, and give you one point of contact. That's the whole idea behind our relaunch: Plan a Trip, and we handle the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Redondo Beach good for fishing charters?

Yes β€” King Harbor is one of the South Bay's main sportfishing ports, with quick access to Santa Monica Bay, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and Catalina Island on longer runs. It's our home water.

What fish can I catch out of Redondo Beach?

Calico bass, sand bass, halibut, barracuda, bonito, and rockfish are the local staples. Yellowtail and white seabass show in season, and 3/4-day and full-day trips can reach Catalina.

How do I book a Redondo Beach charter through Spirit?

We're relaunching as a concierge and aren't booking yet. Join the Plan a Trip waitlist or call (310) 622-2830 β€” we'll match you with a vetted partner boat out of King Harbor when trips resume.
