Oceanside Sportfishing ChartersIn the past 20 years the fish landings have averaged about 9,000 pounds annually with 39,000 pounds in the peak year of 1944. The chief species have been lobster, albacore, barracuda, and swordfish. In 1951 the leading species were albacore and lobster. Two or three skiff fishermen operate a few lobster traps out of Laguna and a couple of small boats fish for abalone one or two days a week during the season. There is very little sport fishing at Laguna. |

Oceanside Harbor is North County's fishing port β close enough to reach from Orange County or San Diego, with local grounds that don't need a long boat ride. The kelp beds and artificial reefs off the harbor fish consistently for bass and halibut, and when the offshore bite turns on in late summer, Oceanside boats are positioned to get there.
Half-day and 3/4-day trips work the kelp lines, reefs, and sandy bottom for calico bass, sand bass, halibut, barracuda, bonito, and rockfish. It's honest, close-to-home fishing β the kind of trip you can do on a Saturday morning and be home for dinner.
Late summer into fall, longer trips run offshore for yellowtail, dorado, and tuna around kelp paddies and temperature breaks. These trips live and die by conditions β watch the fish counts and marine weather before you commit.

Yes β Oceanside Harbor sits midway between Los Angeles and San Diego with its own productive local grounds: kelp beds, artificial reefs, and sandy flats, plus quick access to offshore waters in season.
Calico bass, sand bass, halibut, barracuda, bonito, and rockfish year-round; yellowtail, dorado, and tuna show on longer offshore runs in late summer and fall.
Oceanside is closer if you're in North County or Orange County, with shorter runs to local kelp. San Diego offers more long-range and offshore options. Tell us where you're staying and we'll point you to the right port.
