Charter Pricing, Honestly

Spirit Sportfishing trips are quote-based β€” and that's deliberate. No two trips cost the same, because no two trips are the same boat, the same length, or the same day. Here's exactly how pricing works, what's typically included, and what usually costs extra.

Why quote-based?

A Tuesday half-day for two on a local boat and a Saturday full-day Catalina run for six are different products with different costs. A fixed price list would either overcharge you or under-deliver. So we do it the honest way: you tell us the trip, we tell you the full price β€” no hidden fees, your quote is your price.

What drives the price

  1. 1Private charter vs. party boat. A private 6-pack charter means the whole boat and your own schedule β€” it costs more total, but split six ways it's often comparable per person. Party (open-party) boats charge per person and are the cheapest way for 1–3 anglers to get on the water.
  2. 2Trip length. Half-day (about 5 hours), three-quarter day (about 9), full day (about 12), overnight, and multi-day. Longer runs β€” Catalina, the Channel Islands, offshore tuna grounds β€” burn more fuel and cost more.
  3. 3Party size. More anglers can mean a bigger boat or a second boat. Tell us your headcount up front and we'll find the most economical fit.
  4. 4Season and demand. Summer weekends and holidays are peak β€” they book 2–4 weeks out and price accordingly. Weekdays and shoulder season are the value play.
  5. 5Departure port and target species. A local bay trip costs less to run than an offshore tuna hunt. Specialized trips (shark, lobster hooping, long-range) carry specialized pricing.

What's typically included

On most partner trips: rods, reels, bait, and tackle. Your match email always spells out exactly what's included for your trip β€” if it's not listed, ask before you go.

What's typically extra

  • California fishing license β€” required for anglers 16+; buy ahead or at most landings.
  • Food and drinks β€” bring your own; most boats have a galley or cooler space.
  • Fish cleaning / fillet fee β€” many boats fillet your catch dockside for a small per-fish fee.
  • Crew gratuity β€” deckhands work overwhelmingly for tips; 15–20% for good work is the standard.
  • Parking at some landings.

Rough market context (not our prices). To calibrate expectations, Southern California open-party trips typically run in these ballparks: half-day about $65–$115 per person, three-quarter day about $115–$190, full day about $180–$300; private 6-pack charters often $900–$2,000+ depending on length. These are rough industry ranges, not Spirit Sportfishing prices β€” your actual quote comes from the operator for your date, and it's the number you pay.

No hidden fees β€” your quote is your price

When we match you, you get the full price, the deposit terms, and the cancellation terms in writing before you pay anything. If a fee isn't in your quote, it isn't yours to pay. That's the whole policy.
